Day 30: Homer to Seward

One Month on the Road Today

Partial Sun on the Mountains on Resurrection Bay in Seward, AK (Taken from our cottage)

Today is the one month mark (30 days) of our Great Alaska Adventure-- and we are loving every minute of it, with each destination being unique in its own way.

We spent most of today driving from our cottage on the bluff above the bay in Homer, to our cottage right on the bay (Resurrection Bay this time) outside Seward.  We started with rain and fog, drove out of it for a bit, found it again, and finally left it behind us when we hit Seward.  Hopefully that good weather will hold (we hear it had been raining here all week and that we got the first clear day).

Here are the highlights of that drive:

We arrived in town a bit earlier than check in, so we had some lunch at the local brewery (just fine), and bought some fresh salmon to cook up for dinner from a local smokehouse. (We bought it fresh and un-smoked-- it was as good as it promised, thanks to a cook who knew what she was doing.)

We then proceeded down a very bumpy 2 mile stretch of dirt road that followed the bay around to our cottage. (You saw that in the last part of the video.) Here we are entering the cottage:

The views from here are just amazing.  The main picture was taken from right outside our front door.  This is a panoramic video I shot standing in front of our cottage.

And, here are several stills we took between when we arrived at high tide and when it got dark at low tide.  Each change in the view was more spectacular than the one before, and we couldn't stop taking pictures.  Here are some of our favorites:

And special for Mom, here is a picture of the outside of the cottage (with me beside it), and one of the inside (that I took and am not in).

Small, but cozy, and right on the water

M was very displeased with us for making her traverse the bumpy muddy road, so we agreed to give her the day off tomorrow.  We are going to head out on foot to walk the water at low tide, and semi-urban hike the road into town (about 3 miles each way) instead of drive.

More on that tomorrow...
