Welcome to Bob & Lisa's Great Alaska Adventure

Welcome!

Welcome to all of our friends, family, co-workers, and casual observers who happened upon this blog.

It's purpose is to chronicle our great Alaska driving adventure.  We'll be traveling in my (Lisa's) bright red, really fast, BMW 2015 M235i with xDrive. (In case you're interested, that really is 4 wheel drive, and is purported to do 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds-- perhaps we'll find out 😄)

The plan is for the trip is to begin on July 28 by heading up through Wyoming and stopping for a couple of days in Butte, MT. The real trip begins with Glacier National Park in Montana, and then proceeding up through the Canadian Rockies with stops in Banff and Jasper. We then work our way up through Canada stopping in Fort St. John, Fort Nelson, Watson Lake, Whitehorse, and Beaver Creek then crossing into Alaska with our first stop back in the USA being Tok.

The Alaska adventure begins in Palmer (home of giant cabbages and the famed reindeer farm), then several days in Homer, several in Seward (if you ever took an Alaska Cruise you've probably ported here), several in Denali, then a week in Fairbanks.

From there we begin the journey back to the states (via Canada) and head back to Tok, over to Destruction Bay, and on to Haines.  The high-level trip to this point looks like this:

Bob & Lisa's Great Alaska Adventure: Part 1

We'll catch the ferry in Haines and travel through the northwest passage and arrive in Bellingham, WA 4 days later. (In case you're wondering, it costs more for M to ride the ferry than it does Bob and Lisa.)

From there we have a week in Seattle in a condo right next to Pikes Place market, then a house on the cliffs overlooking the water outside Gig Harbor, WA (near Tacoma-- 2 big car museums and Chihuly glass everywhere, a true Bob and Lisa meeting of the minds.)  After that, 2 nights at the red caboose getaway in Sequim, WA. (In case you're wondering again, yes we are staying in an actual caboose car.)

That takes us to October 1, with a month left.  We'll see how tired we are and re-evaluate. But the ambitious plan is to head all the way across the northern Washington coast and stay in a cabin as far west as we can in Neah Bay, then turn down the coast into Oregon stopping for a bit in Astoria and using that as a base for exploration.  Then heading home, likely via Coeur d'Alene, ID and down through Wyoming.

We are so looking forward to getting away together (and with M of course) for this grand adventure.  The plan (if I can manage it) is to post every day during the trip. So, we hope you'll visit this blog often and join us (at least vicariously) on our journey.
