Bob & Lisa On a Motorcycle Tour

 After sleeping in this morning (our Jasper hotel has killer black-out blinds), we had a late breakfast and then headed over to Jasper Motorcycle Tours for our 3 hour tour. (No Gilligan's Island problems here.)

 I had never been on a motorcycle before, and Bob had never been in a sidecar, so this was a first for both of us.  Here is the ride waiting for us:

 If you're in my family, you're thinking "that looks like a motorcycle."  If you're part of Bob's crew, you're thinking that looks like a Harley with an Indian sidecar attached-- and you'd be right.

 The first thing they did was dress us in a bunch of very silly looking motorcycle riding gear-- I think half for insurance and half for making the tourists look silly.

After that we hit the road with Rob, our guide.  We were able to switch off riding on the bike and in the sidecar as we progressed, and we each had several turns in each seat. Rob didn't let us drive-- but he did let Lisa site in the driver's seat for this picture (That's him in the foreground.)

Rob was a great guide, and not only took us on a bunch of fun windy-curvy roads, but also to several places that required a permit for entry that we would not have been able to get to ourselves.  
This is what is left of the Ghost Glacier at Mt. Edith Cavell.  They had a major avalanche in 2012 which bought down a good piece of the glacier.  The area is only now starting to recover and they are working to make it accessible to the general public again.

Here is Bob at the waterfall runoff from Ghost Glacier.  He bravely followed our guide's lead and sipped from the ice cold water that was only minutes ago part of Ghost Glacier. (For the record, he's not sick or dead yet...stay tuned for any status changes.)

Day 76: Astoria, OR to Ontario, OR

Cars, Airplanes, and Snow! Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum, Hood River, OR As we checked out of our hotel in Astoria, OR this morning we watched our last ship go by. Kaimon Galaxy: Inbound in Astoria, OR Then we hit the road, bright and early.  The drive to Ontario was about 500 miles and was supposed to take a bit over 7 hours.  If all had gone as planned, we'd have arrived around 6PM while it was still light and we had plenty of time to grab dinner and relax before our next leg tomorrow. Not long after we left Astoria, we came across this giant Weyerhauser papermill in Longview, OR. Welcome to Bob & Lisa's Great Alaska Adventure

Welcome! Welcome to all of our friends, family, co-workers, and casual observers who happened upon this blog. It's purpose is to chronicle our great Alaska driving adventure.  We'll be traveling in my (Lisa's) bright red, really fast, BMW 2015 M235i with xDrive. (In case you're interested, that really is 4 wheel drive, and is purported to do 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds-- perhaps we'll find out 😄) Bob Standing with M as she waits to get new shoes. The plan is for the trip is to begin on July 28 by heading up through Wyoming and stopping for a couple of days in Butte, MT. The real trip begins with Glacier National Park in Montana, and then proceeding up through the Canadian Rockies with stops in Banff and Jasper.
