T-8:Staging Ground

Getting the Gear Together!

Staging Ground for Alaska Gear
With only eight days and just one weekend left (though everyday is now a weekend for Retired Bob), we've started getting our gear together in a big pile in the basement.  That's not to say that stuff isn't still scattered about the house and still coming in, but at least we're starting to get ready to pack (or at least to cull and then pack).

The prize among our new possessions is our soft-sided, easy to fit in the trunk, Yeti cooler, shown below.
Our Yeti Cooler

We selected it for performance and durability, but Bob has fully embraced Yeti cool.  He not only bought a t-shirt, but this travel coffee mug.

Adding to our cool-factor, is our new GoPro (Thank you Ron & crew)-- which we have yet to learn how to use (ok, even turn on), but it is next on our list.  We hope to attach it to the car visor for some views from the road, and to ourselves for some views off the road.  Stay tuned on that one.
GoPro Ready to Go

And of course to power that GoPro, and all of the other electronics we'll be taking with us in the car, we've got our 5-port fast USB car charger in Hokie orange. (Thank you Natalie).

From cool to practical is the collection of rain slickers, a small umbrella, a first aid kit, and a flashlight with flashers in case of a roadside emergency--all of which we are hoping we will rarely or never need.
Here's to Staying Safe and Dry

Finally, our personal pillows (from Walmart, on sale, but still) are a trip luxury.  We figure that even if we're away from home for a few months, we should at least be assured of a comfy pillow, regardless of where we end up laying our heads.
So We'll Always Know Where We'll Lay Our Heads

Until tomorrow...and to all a good night.
